FROM CO-CREATION TO A FUNCTIONAL AND FUTURE-PROOF WORKING ENVIRONMENT

What started small grew into a complete design & build project, in which we were able to take care of every step for STL.

When Sectorinstituut Transport en Logistiek (STL) wanted to renovate their office in Gouda, one thing was clear: this had to be more than just a facelift. The office no longer suited the new way of working and was outdated. Everyone still had a fixed place, hybrid working and meeting facilities were inadequate, and they wanted to improve collaboration and interaction in the office.

But where do you start? Together with STL, we started at the beginning: the strategy. In an interactive workshop, we identified the wishes and needs of not only the organization but also the employees. This provided direction, clarity, and support from day one.

Ultimately, we were asked not only to determine the strategy for STL but also to translate it into an interior design and complete realization.

We started with reference visits and an interactive workshop at OCS+ to define the wishes and needs in concrete terms. The most important outcome? The office had to be a place where people feel at home. STL wanted to encourage more collaboration and interaction, more variety in meeting rooms, and there was a desire for a dynamic work café: a space that not only serves as a place to have lunch, but also a place where you can receive clients and facilitate meetings. This strategy formed the basis for a design that really works.

In collaboration with Brazza Interiors, we translated the strategic frameworks into a concept that is not only inspiring but also functional. The design is structured like a clock: from warm, neutral social zones to colorful, energetic multi-rooms and back to quiet focus areas. There is a great deal of variety: hybrid meeting rooms and open collaboration zones ensure that there is a suitable place for every activity. The traditional reception has been replaced by a hospitality environment where you immediately feel welcome upon arrival, and space has been made for a large work café. The use of materials and colors reinforces STL's identity and has been implemented throughout the design.

The renovation of the four floors required flexibility and smart organization. At the last minute, it was decided to temporarily move office work to a location across the street. This allowed us to work on several floors at the same time. Where possible, existing elements such as doors, walls, and even office chairs were reused. The ceiling was completely renovated: new suspended ceilings were installed in the work areas, while the social zones were given an industrial look with spray painting. Fire safety and structural details were also carefully taken into account. Thanks to the tight coordination of our project manager and the STL project team, the project was completed entirely according to plan, without any delays.

A complete concept that fits.

The result at STL is more than just a beautiful office; it is a total concept that has been right from day one. From the moment you walk in, you feel the energy and are stimulated by the details, the routing, and the open atmosphere. From the dynamic work café to the quiet focus areas: everything contributes to collaboration, meeting, and performance. What makes this project special is that the concept is not only functional and aesthetically strong, but was developed in close collaboration with STL and is fully supported by the organization. Employees feel at home, and that’s what it was all about.
