Flexible learning spaces for students
A PILOT PROJECT
When a university has been around for at least 400 years, traditions are often an important part of their identity. However, for any educational institution in today’s world, regardless of how old or how new it is, its success depends on its ability to anticipate the changing expectations and needs of students in the 21st century. These values were of great importance when the university administration started planning to open a new university library.
Our approach to create a flexible learning space
By using easily movable furniture, there is a space developed by Steelcase and OCS+ that can be used by up to 50 students at the same time, in which there is the possibility for different configurations to support different activities.
Verb tables with integrated power cut-offs make it easy for students to switch between working individually and collaborating in groups. In addition, intermediate screens offer the possibility to adjust their space at any time by removing them to collaborate or placing them in between to create privacy. Specially designed for educational environments, Node chairs can easily be rolled into quiet corners for a concentration workspace or brought together for a study huddle. Ideal for individual use but large enough to collaborate with, the whiteboards are always easy to reach and a large digital screen on the wall supports information sharing for large groups and classes.
